Shortly after the Almeda wildfire burned through Southern Oregon in September 2020, a firefighter shared this story at an exhibit after seeing "River Free":

"I am a firefighter. You're painting draws you in and really captures the view we firefighters see when we are battling flames. You look up and don't expect to see beauty but it's there. It's everywhere. You've captured it completely."
